Are Golf Shoes Really Necessary for Playing Golf While you need footwear, are golf shoes really necessary for golfing? As we are talking about the individual golfer's own feet, he or she needs to ask this question and answer it personally.
Most golf shoes are not attractive footwear. However, the honor of ugliest footwear in sports belongs entirely to bowling shoes. Only those not in their right mind would want to wear red and green shoes. On the hand, golf shoes are designed in a more practical, and somewhat more attractive, manner. But for a person to play golf, are they really needed?
No, golf shoes are not really a must-have. The footwork of a golfer is more important than his or her choice in footwear. The footwear a golfer chooses to wear can be practically anything from moccasins to a good athletic shoe.
Needless to say, the shoe a golfer wears need be comfortable on his or her feet. There is nothing worse for a golfer than an uncomfortable shoe. If the toes are pinched, or the back rides up on the heel, the golfer will be miserable and can't concentrate on the game.
Comfort comes first in playing golf. After comfort, traction is important. The golfer can't have their feet turning after they have struck the ball. If this happens, the ball may careen wildly, most likely winding up as a major league slice or hook. But the ball, won't go where the golfer had planned to hit it.
When another type of footwear is chosen in place of golf shoes, thoughts should be given to the type. Examine the tread pattern. If the bottom of the shoe is slick, with no pattern at all, it would be a good idea to leave these shoes behind. There will be little, if any traction, and none at all if the course is wet, either from rain or dew.
What is the best type of tread pattern? Again, individual preferences come in. The old tire-tread pattern found in boots and sandals work for some. Such shoe sole will provide traction for playing golf. Some may prefer a circular pattern of sole, while others may like something totally different.
Some courses only allow golf shoes with soft spikes so the course doesn't get chewed up. People do a lot of walking when playing golf. Preventing damage is necessary especially if the people are walking the entire course. But to protect the carpet, most club houses will only allow soft spikes to be worn inside
Being comfortable and confident is more important regardless of the shoes or golf shoes used. Actually it might be better for a golfer to be less conscious of his or her shoes and concentrate on playing golf.
